HEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
Emley Show Committee recognises that making appropriate provisions for the health and safety of its members is an integral part of its activities. It is therefore the policy of the Committee to conduct its activities in such a manner as to secure the health and safety of its members and to protect the public who may be affected so far as is reasonably practicable.
The Committee will set and maintain high standards for health and safety and ensure that all members, contractors, exhibitors, traders, caterers and voluntary helpers, are informed of these standards by providing appropriate information.
The following are extracts from the STATEMENT OF SAFETY POLICY and a copy of the full document will be forwarded to all Trade Stand operators. Additional copies will be available at the Show Secretary's Tent on show day.
All exhibitors must comply with standards and safety rules required by Emley Show Committee . Entry to show is conditional upon these rules and conditions being adhered to and strictly followed.

Smoking in ALL Marquees is not allowed.

The use of portable generators on the Show ground must comply with Health & Safety Executive Guidance note PM 32 "The safe use of portable electrical apparatus". THE USE OF DOMESTIC PLUGS AND SOCKETS WITH GENERATORS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED.

The use of Liquid Petroleum Gas on the Show ground must comply with the Health & Safety Executive Guidance note CS6 "the storage and use of Liquid Petroleum Gas on Construction Sites".

Machinery. The use of machinery and equipment by persons under 13 years on site is prohibited. In any event machinery and equipment must only be operated and demonstrated after ensuring that adequate precautions are taken to protect the operator and members of the public. Persons who supply or load machinery or equipment must ensure that it complies fully with current legislation and standards relevant to its proposed use.

All riders of ATV’s must wear crash hats when on the Showground.

Children. Precautions must be taken to ensure the safety of children on site, in particular in areas where there may be contact with animals, moving vehicles and equipment and operating machinery.

Animals. Effective control of animals must be maintained at all times on the Showground by experienced and trained handlers. Untrained personnel must not be allowed to handle animals on the Showground.

Exhibitors must be aware of appropriate emergency action to take and arrangements to be effected should an animal become aggressive or excited.

All riders of horses must wear hats confirming to British Standards. These should be correctly fitted and chin straps used.

Horses are prohibited from defined areas of the Showground.

Dogs attending the Showground must be on a lead at all times.

Exhibitors of bulls will be required to comply with Health and Safety Executive Guidance note GS 36 "Safe custody and handling of Bulls at Agricultural Shows" and an extract will be forwarded with confirmation of entry.

Diseases of Animals. Exhibitors must ensure that any restrictions imposed on the movements of animals are followed, including the requirements of The DEFRA Animal Movement Rules Spring 2004.

Animal Welfare. Exhibitors should ensure that the facilities they provide for animal welfare are adequate.

Assessing Risks. To comply with Health & Safety legislation Emley Show Society reqires that all exhibitors and traders produce a risk assessment of their activities when attending the showground. This should include all elements of the event and should include any contractors’ activities relevant to their attendance (in the event of an exhibitor or trader employing a contractor). A risk assesment should consider:-
a) the level of risk of an accident/incident
b) who may be harmed in the event of an accident/incident
c) whether significant risks can be eliminated or adequately controlled
It is an exhibitor’s/trader’s reponsibility to ensure that all persons employed by them at the event are competent to carry out the range of tasks rerquired. A copy of risk assessment documentation must be brought to the show and be made available to the show organisers.

Persons who fail to comply with these requirements will be instructed to cease activities and may be required to leave the Showground.

Emergency Arrangements. Emergency procedures have been defined and issued to the members of the Show Council and Section Secretaries. In the event of a serious incident or accurrence the Show Secretary or a nominee must be contacted at the Show Secretary’s tent.
